Who we are

The South west Wildlife Trusts partnership (SWWT) is a jointly owned charitable company, established in 2002, by the eight Wildlife Trusts that safeguard the wildlife and biodiversity in Avon, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, the Isles of Scilly, somerset and Wiltshire.

Each member trust remains financially and legally independent, with its own identity, governance, locally managed teams, land-holdings, priorities and supporter networks.

The SWWT exists to set local work in a regional context, taking forward strategic initiatives, sharing best practice, speaking as a single voice on issues of shared concern, and jointly influencing the development and implementation of regional policies.

The South West's Trusts link up with 39 other via the registered national charity to which they belong: The Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts.

Together, trusts cover every part of the UK, as well as te Isle of Man and Alderney, and represent more than 700,000

members, including the 100,000+ young people who are members of the movement's junior branch: Wildlife Watch.

The work of SWWT is managed by a Board of Directors drawn from the member Trusts and implemented by the Director of Regional Programmes: Simon Brenman.

The partnership’s long-term goals are set out in its Vision Statement.

These include:

  • Standing up for wildlife and the environment – through advocacy, policy and campaigning
  • Creating wildlife havens – by working to rebuild biodiversity both on land and marine.
  • Inspiring a love of nature – via outreach and educational initiatives.
  • Encouraging sustainability – by promoting community-led action on climate change and sustainable living.
